Review of My New Residence in Piedmont, California
Having recently moved to Piedmont, California, I thought it might be helpful to share my experiences so far. As a 47-year-old Cloud Technology Engineer, balancing the demands of my profession with my personal life is crucial, and Piedmont has offered an interesting mix of opportunities and challenges.
Firstly, Piedmont's location is quite appealing. Nestled in the rolling hills of the East Bay region, the scenery is beautiful and the neighborhood is predominantly residential with tree-lined streets and well-maintained homes. I've found it to be a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of nearby cities like Oakland and San Francisco, both of which are easily accessible for work.
As someone who works in cloud technology, reliable and fast internet is a top priority for me. Thankfully, Piedmont scores high in this regard. The infrastructure supports high-speed connections, which has been a relief for my remote work and virtual meetings. I've had minimal disruptions, which is a big plus in my line of work.
The local amenities, while not extensive, are sufficient for day-to-day needs. There's a small commercial area with a few shops, cafes, and restaurants. For more extensive shopping or dining out options, a short drive to Oakland or Berkeley covers that adequately. I've not yet felt a lack in terms of basic necessities or dining experiences, though the options within Piedmont itself are somewhat limited.
One aspect of Piedmont that's particularly noteworthy is its sense of community. The town has a small, tight-knit feel with various community events and activities that seem well attended by residents. This has been pleasant, though as someone who's more introverted, I haven’t fully immersed myself in these activities. However, for those who enjoy a vibrant social life, Piedmont offers plenty of community engagement opportunities.
The schools here are reputed to be excellent, which was a consideration for our family move, although in our case, it doesn’t impact us directly as we don’t have school-aged children. The reputation of the schools does contribute positively to the overall feel and value of the area.
One downside I've noticed is the cost of living. As with many parts of California, Piedmont is not cheap. Housing prices are steep, and other living costs seem elevated compared to what we were used to. However, this is somewhat offset by the quality of life and the benefits of living in such a pleasant and convenient location.
Commutes can be tough during peak hours if you need to drive to San Francisco or Silicon Valley regularly. Luckily, flexible working arrangements in my profession mitigate this issue. Public transportation options are nearby but not within Piedmont itself, which might be a drawback for some.
Overall, my experience in Piedmont has been largely positive but not without a few notable drawbacks. It's a beautiful, peaceful place with a strong sense of community and reliable infrastructure for work. However, the high cost of living and limited local amenities might be considerations for anyone planning to move here. For me, it has been a worthwhile move, aligning well with my professional needs and personal lifestyle.
