Moving to Mission Viejo, California, has been an interesting experience so far. At 46 years old, I’ve lived in a few different places, and as a Genetics Specialist, my work often determines where I settle. Mission Viejo is a well-maintained and picturesque city with a lot to offer, both positives and some areas that could be improved.

One of the highlights is definitely the scenic beauty. The city is lined with lush green parks and well-manicured landscapes, perfect for weekend jogs or leisurely walks. The neighborhoods are quiet and generally feel very safe, which is a big plus. Mission Viejo Lake is a charming spot for relaxation and occasionally unwinding after work.

The professional scene has been decent but not extraordinary. While there are some good medical and research facilities in and around the area, it doesn't quite match the bustling medical hubs found in larger cities. However, it's a good place to balance work and leisure, which is something I have come to appreciate more at this stage in my career.

Community spirit is strong here. People are generally friendly, and there’s a variety of community events and farmers' markets that add a nice touch of local charm. If you have a family, the schools have a good reputation, and there are plenty of activities for kids.

On the downside, the cost of living is quite high, which isn’t surprising for California but does require some adjustment. Traffic isn’t as nightmarish as Los Angeles, but it's still a consideration during peak hours, and public transportation options are fairly limited.

Overall, Mission Viejo offers a pleasant, albeit somewhat suburban, living experience, especially if you're looking for a quieter lifestyle with good community amenities. It may not be the perfect place for career-centric professionals in highly specialized fields, but it strikes a reasonable balance for those valuing a picturesque and peaceful environment.
