I've recently moved to Shallotte, North Carolina, and as a 66-year-old customer service specialist, I have a mix of thoughts about my new hometown.

First, the positives: Shallotte has a charming small-town atmosphere that's both welcoming and laid-back. The community is tight-knit, and people are generally friendly, which has made settling in relatively easy. The pace of life here is slower, which suits my current lifestyle just fine. I appreciate the proximity to various beaches—it's a perk to be able to take a short drive and enjoy the coastline whenever I wish.

However, there are some areas where Shallotte falls short. Public transportation is almost non-existent, which can be inconvenient, especially as I age. Having a car is essential for getting around, from grocery runs to medical appointments. The dining options are somewhat limited as well; while there are a few good spots, I miss the variety of cuisines that bigger cities offer.

Moreover, healthcare facilities, while present, are not as robust as what I was used to before moving. This could be a concern as I get older. Finally, job opportunities outside of basic retail and service sectors seem sparse, which might not affect me significantly but could be a point of consideration for others.

All in all, Shallotte has its charm, particularly if you value a slower pace of life and a close-knit community. It's not without its drawbacks, but for now, it feels like a decent place to call home.
