Having recently relocated to Granite Falls, North Carolina, I find myself in a town quite unlike any I’ve lived in before. At 67 years old and still working as a Wind Turbine Maintenance Specialist, the change has been both interesting and challenging.

First and foremost, Granite Falls is a small town with a strong sense of community. People here are generally friendly and neighborly, which helps in feeling a part of something larger in a new place. The pace of life is decidedly slower than in bigger cities, which has its pros and cons. While it’s refreshing not to deal with urban hustle, finding specialized services and facilities sometimes requires a trip to a nearby city.

The natural beauty here is undeniable. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the scenery is picturesque, making my daily walks incredibly enjoyable. However, this also means that public transportation is limited, which could be a drawback for those who rely on it.

Granite Falls has a modest selection of shops, restaurants, and recreational activities. While it doesn't offer a wide variety, basic necessities are met, and any major needs can usually be addressed in the nearby larger towns.

Professionally, it’s been relatively smooth. The wind conditions are favorable for my work, and the local industry is accommodating. However, I do miss the advanced infrastructure and networking opportunities available in more industrial areas.

Overall, Granite Falls is a quiet, lovely place to live, especially if you appreciate a close-knit community and natural surroundings. It's a change from bustling city life, but one I’ve come to appreciate in its own right.
