I recently relocated to Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, and I'd like to share some initial thoughts on my new home. As a 67-year-old cybersecurity specialist, the concept of "new" and "change" is something I'm quite accustomed to, albeit usually in the virtual realm. Transitioning these skills to real life might be a bit of a stretch, but let's dive in.

Mountain Lakes is undeniably picturesque with its serene lakes and lush greenery. For someone who has spent most of her life behind screens and networks, the natural beauty here is a refreshing break. The walking trails around the lakes are particularly enjoyable, offering me a peaceful escape to clear my mind after a long day of work.

Housing in this borough is primarily composed of older, charming homes. While they add to the quaint atmosphere, they also come with their own set of challenges, especially in terms of maintenance and updates to align with modern living standards. The fiber-optic internet is reliable, which is crucial for my remote work in cybersecurity, but setting it up did require more coordination than I initially anticipated.

Mountain Lakes has a tight-knit community which is a double-edged sword. On one hand, the sense of camaraderie and neighborliness is heartwarming, and I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few community events that were quite enjoyable. However, being somewhat of a private person, the small-town feel sometimes makes me long for the more anonymous lifestyle of a bigger city.

The local amenities are sufficient, with grocery stores, pharmacies, and basic necessities within a reasonable distance. However, for more specialized services or entertainment options, a trip to nearby larger towns or even New York City is necessary. This can be a bit taxing, but not unmanageable.

Mountain Lakes offers a blend of tranquility and minor inconveniences that are to be expected with any move. For now, it is home, with all the advantages and quirks that come along with a new place of residence.
