I recently made the move to Kettering, Ohio, a suburb just south of Dayton. As someone who has worked in logistics management for over three decades, I've seen my fair share of places, and I can say Kettering has its pros and cons.
First, the community here is rather welcoming. The neighbors are pleasant and helpful, which has made the transition smoother. There's a sense of Midwestern friendliness that resonates through the town, and it’s refreshing to see people genuinely interested in connecting with new residents.
One of the highlights is the Forest Field Park, which is excellent for morning walks. It provides a good escape from the hustle and bustle, allowing me to start my days with a bit of tranquility. Though I wouldn't consider myself an outdoor enthusiast, the abundance of green spaces and trails is a nice touch.
When it comes to amenities, Kettering offers decent options. There are enough grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping centers to cater to daily needs, but it's not overwhelming. I’ve found a few good spots for dining, though the variety could be better. Being in logistics, I can appreciate the efficient layout of the town; getting around is relatively straightforward, and traffic isn't much of an issue.
However, I've noticed that public transportation isn't as robust as it could be. This isn't a deal-breaker for me since I drive, but for those who rely on it, it might pose a challenge.
The healthcare facilities seem competent, which is important at my age. I’ve already visited a couple of clinics, and the medical professionals were knowledgeable and courteous.
On the downside, the weather can be somewhat unpredictable, which is something I'm still getting used to. Winters are a bit harsher than I'd prefer, but I've dealt with worse.
Work-wise, Kettering doesn’t have a huge employment market for logistics managers, so I do a fair bit of commuting. Fortunately, Dayton isn’t too far, and the drive is manageable.
In summary, Kettering has its charms with some practical conveniences and a strong sense of community. It might not be a bustling metropolis, but it's a comfortable place for someone at my stage in life. There’s room for improvement, but overall, it meets my needs sufficiently.
