Reviews
I recently moved to Covington Village in Ohio, and as someone who has spent 65 years navigating the ebbs and flows of life as a musician and composer, I find myself with a blend of feelings about my new home.
Covington is quaint, a picturesque slice of small-town America with its tree-lined streets and historic charm. The village has a calm, almost nostalgic atmosphere that can be both a welcome respite from and a stark departure from the hustle and bustle of larger cities I’ve inhabited. It’s the kind of place where the word “hurry” seemingly doesn’t exist in the lexicon, which can be both relaxing and, at times, mildly frustrating when you’re used to a faster pace of life.
The community is close-knit; everyone seems to know everyone else. As a newcomer, there’s a bit of a learning curve in integrating into such a tightly woven social fabric. People have been generally friendly, albeit with a hint of curiosity about the new face in the village. I can't say I've found an immediate circle of friends, but I'm hopeful that as I continue to attend local events and perhaps play at the occasional community gathering, more connections will develop.
From a professional standpoint, Covington doesn't offer much in the way of musical opportunities. Large concerts and performing arts events are virtually nonexistent here, which is quite different from what I've been used to. That said, the tranquility has provided a unique backdrop for composing. The quietness is almost palpable, and it's allowed me a rare opportunity to work without the distractions that often come with more urban environments.
Shopping and amenities are limited, so trips to nearby towns are necessary for anything beyond basic needs. This does add a layer of inconvenience but also a sense of adventure, as I explore the neighboring areas.
Overall, Covington Village is a peaceful, albeit somewhat insular, place to live. It may not have the vibrancy or professional opportunities of a larger city, but it has charm in its simplicity. Whether this small-town life will be a long-term fit for me remains to be seen, but for now, it’s a place to find quiet amidst a life filled with melodies.
