I've recently moved to North Oaks, Minnesota, and as a 26-year-old medical laboratory technician, my experience so far has been quite neutral. North Oaks is a very unique city with a private community feel, which is both a positive and a negative depending on what you’re looking for.

The natural environment here is stunning. Lake Owasso and the numerous parks provide a great escape. I love running and biking on the trails, and the scenery is beautiful, especially in autumn. It's a peaceful place, perfect for someone who values tranquility and enjoys being close to nature.

Housing in North Oaks is more on the upscale side. The homes are well-maintained, and the community takes pride in keeping the area pristine. However, coming from a more urban area, it’s definitely been an adjustment. There are no sidewalks, and everything is quite spread out, so having a car is essential.

In terms of daily life, it’s pretty quiet. There aren’t many local shops or dining options within the city itself, which means you’ll have to drive to the neighboring areas like Vadnais Heights or Shoreview for more variety. As someone who works in a lab in St. Paul, the commute is manageable but can be a bit long, especially during the winter months when the roads can be tricky.

Community-wise, North Oaks residents are friendly, but it can feel somewhat insular. People tend to know each other well, and as a newcomer, it might take a while to feel completely integrated. There are community events and gatherings, which are a nice way to meet people, but it requires some effort to get involved.

Overall, North Oaks is a lovely place if you appreciate quiet, safe, and natural surroundings. For a young professional like myself, it offers a serene living environment but lacks the hustle and bustle and convenient amenities of a more urban setting. If you're okay with driving for essentials and entertainment, it’s worth considering.
